Supermoon from Seattle 2012

IMG_5901-2.jpg Another break in the usual Seattle spring weather gave me the oppurtunity to photography the Supermoon rising behind something interesting in the area. My first choice was Three Fingers.

Wired Geiger Counter!

A number of years ago, much to my wfe's chagrin, I purchased a 1960's era Civil Defense issue geiger counter. It was only $15, so what the heck, right? Well with events transpiring in Japan, I thought it might be fun to wire the counter to the web. So, you can see it at http://geiger.bahneman.com. Seattle's only live geiger counter online. It is a pretty rough site, but it does work. I'd like to add an automatic way to count the ticks using some sort of audio analysis, but by the time I did it, interest will have passed.

Check it out: http://geiger.bahneman.com

Emerald City Comicon

This year, for the first time, Jenn, Cohen and I attended the Emerald City Comic Con, a comic-centric Con in its 9th year, but open to all forms of scifi, fantasy and gaming genres. Our two prime areas of interest Firefly and Fringe. This year, John Noble ("Walter") and Jasika Nicole ("Astrid"/"Asterisk"/"Asteroid"/"Kick Ass-trid") were going to be on a panel and the fan-film "Browncoats Redemption" was going to be shown (Jenn waslooking forward to this).

First Sunrise of the New Year

My friend Tim and I thought we'd take a stab at photographing the sunrise from Kerry Park on New Years morning, since it was forecast to be clear. Despite having stayed up til 1am for NYE, we decided to go for it since we both had open mornings. We met at a park and ride and headed off to the viewpoint.

Clear skies, while beautiful, especially in the winter in Seattle, having some clouds is always nice, especially for a sunrise to reflect upon. There were a few low clouds over the Cascades to the east, but not enough.

A tough shot

Its always good to challenge one's self with regards to a hobby or skill, so the other day I was put to the test with getting a full moon (the "Snow Moon" as they call it) juxtaposed with the iconic Space Needle. I saw the potential for the shot the morning before during my commute, so I planned to try to capture it the next day, which proved to be clear.
